HSS Circular Saw Blades

Founded in 1949 SEGMETAL Srl was the first Italian company to start industrial-scale specific production of circular saw blades for metal cutting.

Segmetal Srl offers a complete range of products in the field of metal cutting saws starting from HSS circular saw blades for cut-off machines to the TCT Carbide and Cermet circular saw blades for steel cutting, from HSS and solide carbide UNI-DIN slitting saws to the TCT carbide tipped circular saws for light alloys and wood cutting, from circular knives to the friction saw blades and finally the range is completed with the program of bimetal bandsaw blades

This sawblades have not any PVD coating. They generally used to cutting of non-ferrous materials and plastic materials.


“Red Baron” PVD coating adds to the blade an elevated surface hardness and lower friction coeffi cient guaranting a good cutting fi nishing at high working parameters. Applicable on many materials from very hard steels to brass to very abrasive materials

Technical characteristics:

- Surface hardness: 3100-3300 HV

- Oxidation temperature: 480°C

- Friction coeffi cient: 0,2

TiN PVD coating (Titanium Nitride) adds to the blade an elevated surface hardness. The low thermal conducibility that this system adds to the saw, reduces the located overheating. Lower friction coeffi cient and elevated surface hardness, reduce the formation of the edge of amount carried over. The TiN coated blades have higher performances thanks to higher feeds and higher blade life, 50% more compared to the conventional blades.

The steam coating is currently the most used one. This is not a PVD treatment but a controlled oxidation that coat the saw with a layer of oxide iron which increases the capacity of self cooling and antifriction of the saw. This method is used only for steel cutting and not suggested for alluminium, copper, brass and their alloys, due to the chemical incompatibility.

TiCn (Titanium Carbonitride) multilayer PVD coating has a very low friction coefi cent, therefore it guarantees a very good cut fi nish avoiding chip sticking even at high cutting speeds and feeds. Applicable on many materials from very hard steels to copper alloys, brass and abrasive materials which present the sticking problem. The high surface hardness allows elevated cutting speeds and feeds up to 100% higher compared to the traditional blades.

TiAln (Titanium Alluminium Nitride) PVD coating is specifi c for cutting hard steel and stainless steel; suggested also for cutting abrasive materials such as cast iron, silicium-aluminium alloys, brass and copper. This coating guarantees very good results while cutting with microatomization and elevated cutting parameters thanks to its low friction coefi cient. Its reduced thermal conducibility makes it the best coating to be used at high temperatures.
